That's why the ones in the middle who believe in education, capitalism, strong defense, civil rights and representative democracy and who oppose anti-intellectualism, tyranny, oppression and bigotry need to enforce a redefinition of the current system that pushes us to the fringes. Elected officials on both sides live in constant fear of their own party running against them in a primary if they don't toe the party line. It's up to us to let them know that they need to redefine how the Democratic and Republican parties conduct themselves or risk becoming fringe parties in favor of the majority in the middle. They can each have and keep their bases. The middle is so huge that we don't need either of them. Sounds like the conclusion Trump supporters would reach. The system is what it has been for almost 250 years. |

Trump supporters are far right despite the fact that their guy isn't and that the far right positions are usually not in their interest.
If you are going to govern a huge amount of people you have to do it in the way that angers the fewest and that is always going to be the middle. We give it tugs in either direction and sometimes outright pulls, but it always returns to the middle.
