I've seen all I ever care to see of him. I don't know why they were thinking he would be better as a closer. He was a head case as a starter and even more of one with the added stress of being a closer.
Gallegos, Gant, Brebbia, Webb, and Helsley should all be given a shot before Carlos goes out again. (Or before Carlos gets hurt again.)
Although he IS perfect in his last two save opportunities. Don't mind the 10.8 era or the .444 opponent average or the 2.40 WHIP. Saves are good.

The crazy thing about Carlos is that he's been really good ever since I made this post.
Until the playoffs.
I don't blame Shildt for walking McCann (who has a good record against Carlos) to get to the guy who has been killing us all night. That's one of those calls that you are either a genius or an idiot for making.
I don't even blame Carlos for whatever happened to him. I would prefer that he pay more attention to what he's doing but he is who he is and that is a head case.
I blame ownership that thought it would be OK to roll the dice on Carlos as closer instead of making a deal when Hicks went down.
If and when we get put out, it will be because we don't have a closer.

Chris Carpenter was the best competitor on the mound I've seen in my lifetime. Waino is close. Carlos is worried too much about how he looks. He should be concentrating on executing pitches. Until he gets there he will not be worthy of the talent in his arm.

Carp was an animal.
Gibby was worse.

Whenever you think a pitcher sucks just remember Kip Wells.

I was at the 2005 game in Houston when Carpenter pitched against Clemens for the Cy Young. It was at the end of the season and everyone said this game would decide the Cy Young. Carp was dominant. That game, and the 1-0 game 5 against Halladay in 2011 were the two best pitching performances I ever saw.

It was too long ago to remember the details, but I remember listening to and, on occasion watching Gibby on TV in the late 60's.
He owned the plate and would straight up drill you with a fastball if he didn't like what you were doing.
I don't remember the 2005 game but I remember the one against Halladay. That was as tough as you can get.
