I heard that the song Respect was written by Otis Redding and it was intended to be a statement on keeping your woman in line.
Aretha apparently disagreed.

He was a good man. I did not agree with him politically, but I admired and respected him.
RIP

He was a cheerleader and enabler of war machines. So there's that.

He was a cheerleader and enabler of war machines. So there's that. I never said he wasn’t a republican. I simply respected him.

The GOP has quite a legacy of picking bad running mates.

He is a war hero. I respect that. He stood up to Trump. I respect that. He supported warmongering policies that cost thousands of innocent lives. I don't respect that.

He opposed the torture of POWs against his party line.
McCain was duped on the Iraq war just like 95% of America. He since admitted it was a mistake.

There was a lot of his politics I disagreed with but...
He banned Trump from his funeral.

He gave us Sarah Palin, so there's that. ...and by doing so he gave us Barrack Obama.

All I'm saying is that never seeing a bombing campaign that you didn't like is not a mere political difference.

In the midst of a national frenzy of hagiography it is always uncomfortable for iconoclasts like myself, nevertheless I think it important to see clearly the impact of choices made by politicians who wield real power over the lives of others.

I agree with your stance on aggression. I am pro defense, but anti-war. I believe the 2 most important issues are defense and education.
Regarding McCain, I think labeling him a Warhawk is exaggerated. McCain opposed Reagan in putting troops in Lebanon. He has opposed any notion of war with Iran. MCCain describes the War in Iraq as a terrible mistake. He also vehemently opposed the use is torture on prisoners.

I just started reading The Last Lion by Manchester.
By comparison, McCain was not a war hawk. His desire to use the military was judicious. He only wanted force employed when it was necessary. We all thought it was necessary in Iraq. I was personally a skeptic until Powell's testimony. That convinced me that there were WMD's.
