So... let me get this straight...

He (Coon man) stated that he is one of the people in the photo, but he cannot remember which one. He soon recants and says he wasn’t either one of the characters. Really? Was it so commonplace with him? It certainly was conceivable to him at the least.

Then we have the ridiculous Michael Jackson bit. He only put a couple of black marks under his eyes (like he smoked, but didn’t inhale). His reason was because he knew it was so hard to get that shoe polish off his face. How did he know that?

Of course he had no idea about how he got the name coin man.

I still wish his wife would’ve let him moonwalk... he so wanted to.

Do you really not recognize the difference between Black Face and dressing up like Michael Jackson?

He should explain Coonman and I doubt if he can provide anything other than the obvious. I said as much in my earlier post.

His bumbling response when first confronted with the yearbook page is indeed evidence that he was only shocked to all of a sudden, see the picture, not surprised by it's existence. It's also evidence of bumbling. Like I said, it's easy enough to determine whether he is in the photo or not. I can't understand why it hasn't been done yet.

He has three questions he needs to answer.

1. Is that him in the photo?

2. Did he really submit this photo to the yearbook, or was it mixed up?

3. Who is Coonman?

And elected officials and people of VA need to decide whether his answers make him unfit for office. They could make him unfit because he was a racist among racists in his early life or because he's bumbling in a crisis but unless we get answers to these questions, we can only make decisions based on uninformed visceral reactions.

Unfortuantely, those uninformed, visceral reactions are drowning out voices of reason on not just this, but the Justin Fairfax issue.

My opinion is still the same. If Northam has proper support to keep him from bumbling the quick-draw stuff, he has the slow, deliberative style that makes for a good governor. He needs to provide some answers, but those answers will likely reveal just how far he has come as a person since being brought up in the racist South. His plan to become a voice for further progress is exactly what I described as the best possible outcome on the first day of the controversy. He can be a catalyst for change among our generation of white men who were taught from history books that told us so many lies about our heritage. To toss him on the trash heap would be a wasted opportunity to really advance the understanding of what racism is as it exists today.

This was grad school, not some prep school.

I thought that building a border wall couldn't possibly be considered a National Emergency but take a look at what else has.

Some details would certainly shed more light on what made these National Emergencies but I'm not sure how anything going on in Burundi could constitute an emergency here.
